Architecture
Barns have always fascinated me especially as they age and begin to decline. They offer a challenge in design and my way of preserving their dignity. The reflection series began when I could paint in an abstract manner yet be realistic as the same time. Buildings & homes are a constant interest.
Figures
I have always felt to be a good artist one must master drawing the figure. There is a never ending source of inspiration from painting the nude figures to my love of making things like costumes, props and building almost theatrical sets with the figure as the center of interest.
Landscape-Naturescape
The outdoor environment is a perfect source to open one’s senses in the search for beauty—be it a landscape or just a detail I like to call “naturescape”.
Still Life
For me the still life is another challenge in design and composition. I enjoy arranging the various objects I have made or collected over the years. They become tokens of memories, and perhaps they can spark the viewers own memories.
Animals
Farm animals are memories of my early years in rural Nebraska, and the racing horses are studies when I was selected as the Official Churchill Downs Artist in 2017. Birds (mainly in my backyard) became my inspiration during Covid.
